This Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Seeks to Curb the Influence On Resellers

Marking the arrival of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting partnership is underway. The Pokémon Company and London's Natural History Museum are opening a pop-up shop featuring special items. Enthusiasts can look forward to offerings including plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies all inspired by the museum's theme. For collectors, though, is a limited-edition Pikachu card, offered as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. This shop will operate from on-site at the museum and its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.

The Book Behind the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a highly anticipated tome filled with stunning artwork that show Pokémon in their wild environments. It's essentially like what a Pokémon Professor might publish after adventurers provide field notes, alternatively a naturalist's journal might have created had the Galapagos teemed with flying-types instead of finches. Part of the charm lies in the book's scholarly approach, presenting Pokémon as worthy of subject for inquiry. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in animal behavior and ecology.

What Makes This Special Card Different

The company regularly for The Pokémon Company special edition cards for major tournaments or brand collaborations. Many such promotional cards typically highlight the iconic mouse Pokémon who serves as the series face. The factor setting this latest museum card is its distinctly bigger dimensions. While exact measurements have not been publicly disclosed, availability is guaranteed to be strictly limited, with fans limited to only a single card with each transaction.

Limiting Reseller Activity

Per a company announcement, a portion of the pop-up items will also be sold outside the museum walls. But, broader availability will only be select retailers within the UK. Importantly, collectors will not be able to purchase this promo via the online Pokémon Center. While reseller interest is inevitable, it appears they will have a difficult time hoarding mass quantities this time around. If you're unable to attend, there is an alternative like fossil-themed display coming to the Windy City in the coming months.

"All profits of sales from the museum store and its web shop, including Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. This includes the efforts of hundreds of researchers who are scientific inquiry to discover answers to the global ecological crisis," it says.
