The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
