The former Liverpool manager states coming back to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club remains a possibility. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown since 1990, currently occupies roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would embrace the possibility that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I declared I won't manage any other side in England. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, so I could make the decision later on, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I can just see what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on what circumstances must arise to tempt his return to management, he revealed he isn't eager to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip press conferences repeatedly each week or constant media duties weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the players having a nice chat, is pleasant. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role for the tweaks that won the league last campaign. They've been defeated a string of losses across various tournaments following significant transfers, but he rubbished the notion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
He shared movingly regarding the passing of Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The forward lost his life in a car crash with his brother in July.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It goes beyond the player himself, it's his character. I can’t imagine the team environment without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. A profound tragedy for all the boys too. Not a single person would cite it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Dealing with that on a personal level is not easy. Unbearable.”
