Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position following another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the club's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got significant support from management,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period such as this with results like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to where it needs to be, prove again the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
