Putin Assures Continuous Oil Deliveries to the Indian Nation in Snub of US Pressure

During a defiant message to Western nations, President Vladimir Putin informed PM Narendra Modi that Russia remains committed to provide “uninterrupted” shipments of crude oil to India. These remarks came during a summit where both heads of state met in Delhi and affirmed their partnership were “resilient to outside influence.”

A Signal Aimed at the West

The statement, delivered Friday, appeared to be a direct challenge at Washington, that have repeatedly attempted to compel New Delhi into curtailing its historical relations with Moscow. The backdrop follows previous Washington's moves, notably additional trade penalties on India because of its acquisition of Moscow's energy exports.

“Russia is a reliable supplier of energy resources and all required for the development of India’s energy sector,” Putin remarked. “Russia is prepared to continue ensuring the consistent flow of resources for the rapidly growing Indian economy.”

Prime Minister Modi, without referencing crude directly, echoed the focus by stating that “secure fuel supplies has been a key and crucial cornerstone of the Indo-Russian cooperation.”

Questioning Washington's Stance

Prior to the summit, in a TV appearance, Putin had criticized Washington's stance on India's oil imports. The president questioned, “When Washington has the right to buy our uranium, how can you deny India claim the equivalent access?”

Putin's arrival represented his first visit to India following the start of the conflict in Ukraine, and both sides made a visible attempt to demonstrate that the friendship between the heads of state persisted strongly.

A Warm Welcome

Taking an unusual move, Prime Minister Modi personally greeted Putin upon his arrival. The two shared a warm hug like old friends before holding a closed-door supper on Thursday evening.

The Indian prime minister later described India's alliance with Russia as “a lodestar” and added it was “founded on reciprocal esteem and deep trust.”

Reaffirming Bilateral Ties

Friday's talks resulted in several important deals regarding military and trade relations. A cornerstone agreement was the finalization of an joint economic plan aimed at 2030, which sets a goal to increase twofold bilateral trade to a hundred billion USD each year by the 2030 deadline.

Additionally agreed to restructure their defence ties. Although Russia continues to be India's primary exporter of defence equipment, this role has declined in recent years as India has sought diversify its supply base.

Their communique stressed cooperation in the collaborative manufacturing of sophisticated defence platforms, although explicit details of deals for the Su-57 fighter jet were not made.

Ultimately, both nations reiterated that in the “ongoing challenging, difficult, and volatile geopolitical situation, the Indo-Russian partnership stay strong to foreign influence.”
