Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
