Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points Norris, finished in 17th position as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
