Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Problems.
'Serious blow' for England after Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.
Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the field during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.
The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over at the MCG.
The touring camp stated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and would spend time away from the action for further assessment "over the next few hours".
The series decider in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January starts at the end of the week.
England have already lost fast bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on the current trip.
A replacement bowler was called up as cover for Wood.
The seamer had a tough time early in the series, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.
He was dropped of the third Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.
Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs with the bat being one of only three England players to get into double digits.
After bowling one over at the end of day one, he resumed on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.
Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of that over, he bowled a change of pace to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.
Atkinson returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test after being left out of the third.
