Democratic lawmakers Denounce Trump After He States They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials voiced fury after former President Donald Trump charged a contingent of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and stated they should be arrested and punished "with execution" following their release of a controversial video.

The Content That Triggered the Controversy

The video footage, shared on Tuesday, features six Democratic congress members who in the past served in defense or security positions.

"Like us, you all swore an vow to protect and uphold this founding document," the lawmakers affirmed in the 90-second video. "And right now, the dangers to our democratic foundation don't only come from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our regulations are explicit, you can refuse improper directives, you can reject improper directives, you have to refuse illegal orders. No one has to follow commands that violate the statutes or our national charter."

The Former President's Angry Response

The clip seemed to trigger a heated response from the former president.

On Thursday morning, Trump wrote on his preferred platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another publication, he declared: "This constitutes really concerning, and Harmful to our Nation. Their statements cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third publication, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also redistributed a comment that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Representatives Answer

Following Trump's statements on Thursday, Democratic leadership issued a unified declaration condemning the statements.

"Political violence has no position in America," they wrote. "Congress members who were featured in the video all worked our country with great national pride and honor. We unequivocally denounce Donald Trump's appalling and dangerous threats of violence against members of Congress, and urge GOP representatives to vigorously do the same."

The Democratic leaders also said that they had been in touch with law enforcement "to ensure the security of these representatives and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away take down these radical online messages and withdraw his aggressive discourse before he leads to violence," the statement stated.

Officials' Strong Reaction

The lawmakers who were featured in the video also published a declaration.

"We are former service members and national security professionals who love this nation and made an oath to safeguard and defend the constitution of the United States," they said. "That oath lasts a lifetime, and we plan to honor it. No intimidation, intimidation, or incitement will prevent us from that important responsibility."

"What's most telling is that the president deems it subject to penalty by capital punishment for us to restate the legal requirements," they stated. "Our service members should know that we have their backs as they execute their vow to the national charter and obligation to obey only lawful orders. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our obligation."

They added: "All citizens must unite and denounce the ex-president's calls for our execution and ideological conflict. This is a moment for principled stance."

Additional Governmental Responses

The Democratic Senate minority leader also condemned Trump's comments and posted on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the President of the United States is calling for the execution of government members."

He stated: "This constitutes an clear THREAT. Every Senator, each house member, every American – irrespective of political affiliation – should censure this immediately and absolutely."

The GOP leader supported Trump's allegation that the Democrats had been involved in "sedition", describing the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "This constitutes very risky, you have important representatives of the legislature advising soldiers to disobey orders, I think that is historic in US history."

The GOP official also reportedly informed media outlets that in what he examined of Trump's publications, Trump was "explaining the violation of treason" but that "attorneys have to analyze the language and establish all that."

White House Response

During a executive branch meeting on Thursday afternoon, when questioned by a reporter, "Would the president want to put to death congressional representatives?", the administration spokesperson replied: "Absolutely not."

"We should understand about what the president is responding to," the official declared. "There are sitting members of the US Congress who coordinated to arrange a digital communication to personnel of the national defense, to active duty service members advising them to ignore the commander in chief's proper directives."

She stated: "The purity of our armed forces rests on the hierarchy, and if that system is broken, it can result in fatalities, it can lead to confusion, and that's what these elected officials ... are essentially encouraging."
